Tasmanian abuse survivor Grace Tame has been named the Australian of the Year. The 26-year-old became the first woman in Tasmania to be granted a legal exemption to speak about her experience as a victim of sexual assault.

“I remember him saying ‘don’t make a sound’. Well hear me now – using my voice amongst a growing chorus of voices that will not be silenced.”

She has since become a passionate advocate for education on and prevention of child abuse.
